Talented Music Evaluation Process

Admission to the Talented Music Program is gained by recommendations and evaluations.  The process is as follows:

1. Your child must first be screened by a teacher in the Zachary Community School System. This screening is a simple list of questions dealing with the applicant's music ability, etc. Then...

2.The music teacher then sends the screening document to the school's Guidance Counselor.  If SBLC (School Building Level Committee)  deems that the applicant passed the screening process, they then evaluate the applicant in more detail.  If the SBLC approves the applicant, then...

3. The paperwork will be forwarded to Pupil Appraisal.  From that point, they are evaluated at the ZCSD Special Education office.  If they are deemed qualified at the Special Education office level, then...

4. A music audition and interview will be scheduled.  (If the applicant is in 6th grade or below an aural [auditory] skill evaluation will also take place).  If they pass that audition and interview, then...

5. An initial I.E.P. (Individualized Instruction Plan) conference with parents, student, special education personnel, talented teacher, and school representative will be invited to the I.E.P. conference.  Then, and only then, after the I.E.P. takes place, will students be given talented music services.

  1. Note to faculty - It is an involved process, so please make sure that it is done correctly (for example - make sure to get ALL SIGNATURES along the way).

  2. Note to prospective students - Neither the talented teacher, nor the regular music teacher will have any clue as to the progress of your "application / recommendation" until the process is complete.  Sorry

  3. Teachers Only - Please obtain the screening instrument from your school’s Guidance Counselor.
